Although our talk concerning the presentation of Magento and it’s integration with TYPO3 was held in the rather smaller consultancy track the talk was very well visited. Despite the quite weak internet access the presentation was a great success which led to a lot of questions and discussions after the talk and in the conference dinner. The results will be published in the web and in the magazine T3N in near future.

The best paper awards were given to the following collegues:
1. Hoffmann: „Usability concepts for (Backend)-Interfaces“
2. Michael Otto: „Going global with TYPO3“
3. Karsten Dambelkans: „Transparent Object Persistence with FLOW3“

Additionally the TYPO3 Association announced that the next TYPO3 convention will not take place in Europe but in Dallas, USA, although it is understood as an additional conference which does not replace the yearly conference. The next European conference might be hosted in Berlin again in the coming year – Flagbit will of course take place again.

The center for welfare and social work in Frankfurt that arose from the health care of the evangelic community concentrates on ambulatory health care, medical care and home supply for old and sick people since the 1970s. Now the guys from Frankfurt decided to report and inform about their work on their brand-new website.

The website was developed by Flagbit in cooperation with cogitum from Hahnstätten. Most important was a cost-effective realisation that causes low maintenance costs in the future. That's why the content management system TYPO3 was used and optimized for high usability. This enables the workers to update their website themselves regardless of not being well grounded in the world wide web.

Another target was to achieve a high accessibility to address the website users' needs.

Flagbit becomes Magento Gold Partner

We tie ourselves down: Magento will be the open source e-commerce system of the future. The reason...

Since Magento's final release on March 31st, 2008, it was thought of as a successor of the old bulls osCommerce and xt:commerce. We are confident that Magento has the quality and functionality to replace all existing open source systems and revolutionize the e-commerce market.

A reason for this is the huge functionality the system offers out of the box. Besides the standard shop features Magento offers for example:

Overview of orders, taxes, most-viewed and most-sold products

report of products on low stock

report of abandoned transactions

comparing and rating of products

cross selling, up selling and related products

user-, location- and productspecific price and tax models

generation of bills and notices for call center agents

real time integration with logistic services of UPS, FedEx or DHL

integration of various payment systems

search engine optimization and readable URLs

internationalization and multilanguage support

Almost all parts of the system are optimized on flexibility. Products can be enhanced by any desired attributes, while the application is divided in modules to add or improve functionality in a goal-oriented way.

All of these functions help shop owners to make their shop even more attractive to users by giving them extended possibilities and increasing the ease of use. The frontend can be customized to different designs that can also be optimized for mobile agents like the iPhone. This multiplies the number of potential costumers and thereby the revenues of the shop.

Nevertheless Magento always stays straightforward. Products and other data can be handled in the top modern backend via AJAX technology. Additionally back office costs for administration and data entry can be saved because Magento can be integrated with ERP and stock-keeping systems very easily.

In the end Magento is characterized by a specific quality feature: It works intuitivly and directly as one might anticipate. We were not used to that by existing systems.

These arguments and the solid architecture have convinced us to let Varien Inc., the creator of the system, certify us as a Gold Partner. By doing so we can ensure the best support available to our customers. We really like to counsell you concerning your ambitious e-commerce projects - contact us for a free counselling session without obligation.

PRODYNA AG relaunches web site with Flagbit

Flagbit realises the new web site of PRODYNA AG

Flagbit, the agency for web applications on top of TYPO3 and the Zend Framework from Karlsruhe, makes www.prodyna.de go online. With a new look & feel, increased usability and better technologies the new web site of the IT consulting company from Frankfurt is brought to the web. It was completely redesigned and reimplemented. More than ever the site represents the qualities of professionalism and dynamism that can already be found in the company's name. On the new web pages partners and customers find well arranged and structured information about the services and competences PRODYNA provides.

During the project Flagbit implemented the design from Designmaniac in valid XHTML/CSS and integrated the website into TYPO3. In the backend everybody paid a lot of attention to easy and sophisticated user interfaces. Even employees that were already familiar with TYPO3 noticed that, because of improvements compared to the old version of the company's website which had already used the successful open source cms. After handing the system over, Tina Schwab, the project leader, was happy about it:

The usability rocks. I didn't know TYPO3 could be so easy.

Rescue-Party puts it's shirt on Magento shop system

Flagbit was engaged to realise shop system for rescuers accessories.

Rescue-Party Ltd. decided to cooperate with Flagbit again to realise a new version of the successful online shop for fire departments and rescuers. The new website will base on the open source e-commerce shop Magento.

After developing the current shop system with xt:commerce in 2004, Rescue-Party decided to modernise the system and use Magento. The modular and modern technologies of the shop as well as the grown requirements of the client made this step inavoidable. Before this system was chosen Flagbit evaluated a variety of commercial and free shop systems.

Besides the pure realisation Flagbit also develops a connection to the accounting software and realises a search engine concept. To migrate the current data there will be a self-made export / import mechanism for a seamless change without losing orders or products.
